STEVEN RUTTER - From Me to You (FIRESCOPE/B12 RECORDS)  Forthcoming! This is Steven Rutter, who of course as we all know, or indeed should know, is one half of B12, here releasing under his own name for the very first time. For this four-track release, Rutter pursues his quest of soul-searching introspection. Naturally, the familiar B12 traits are that we all know and love are indeed all present and correct - blissful ambience, sometimes distinctly melancholy melodies, and pattering drum pads; yet all remains as soulful and true to original form as one would hope from this master of his own musical destiny. Akin to much of Rutter's work these days, the theme of this EP is the direct focus of the writer/performer's own personal struggle, much of which is perhaps evident from the track titles. None of this however should detract from the music on offer here in any way as this is pure B12 headiness, whether you are a fan of those revered early works, or a newcomer to the FireScope clan. Acclaimed track for us here is Decliner Box, which kind of ticks all of the boxes in terms of providing listener satisfaction while the mood captures the theme of the project perfectly. Wholeheartedly recommended.
